The Meeting of
Bonita and Venezuela
On May 24, 2025, the Bonita Museum and Cultural Center will host the opening reception of a new art exhibit. Memories of Venezuela will present the paintings of Margarita Hanke and Teresa Molinos. I was lucky to have a Zoom interview with Margarita from her current home in Germany.

About Margarita
I’m originally from Venezuela and the oldest of four sisters. I was raised in a very creative and loving environment, surrounded by music, strong role models, and a deep appreciation for culture.
I studied in Venezuela and the U.S. I was in the Diplomatic Service in my early years, which opened a lot of doors for me. Eventually, I moved to Germany to graduate in Architecture, where I’ve lived for more than 35 years now with my husband and our four wonderful sons.
I’m a multidisciplinary artist — I paint, I write, and I play the cello. I also love creating bridges between cultures through my work, which is why exhibitions like Memories of Venezuela are so meaningful to me. They reflect who I am — a blend of colors, stories, and emotions from all the places and people I carry in my heart.”
I’ve been creating since I can remember. I picked up my first pencils and crayons as a toddler and I just started coloring, coloring, coloring. I was always surrounded by art supplies: colored pencils, watercolor, oil paints, pastels… whatever I could find, I used it to express myself.
For me, art has never been just a hobby — it’s a way of life. I’ve always loved to create. I see the world with open eyes and an open heart, and that helps me bring different things to life through my work. I’m an open-minded person, and I think that’s what allows me to explore so many forms of expression — from painting to writing to music.”
